Description:

Leslie Gulch is a canyon in Malheur CountyOregonUnited States. It is on the east side of Owyhee Lake, a reservoir on the Owyhee River. Its abundant and striking rock formations are made of tuff.

The gulch was named after a local rancher, Hiram E. Leslie, who was hit by lightning here in 1882. Previously it had been called "Dugout Gulch."

The last 15 miles of the gulch are on a smooth, but curvy gravel road, adding a bit of time to get there.

fun  day   Just a note of caution if you look at google maps or your garmin maps you will see a number of little roads that connect from the junction of mcbride creek road and succor creek down towards the coffeepot crater DO NOT BELIEVE THEM   we spend several fun filled hours slogging thru bogs and going up dead end rock trails to find the roads simply do not exisit any more  A local rancher confirmed that most of what the gps says is crap   go out to 95 and down to jordan craters road!

This was the third stop on a Guerber Park, Old Fort Boise Marker, Leslie Gulch, Celebration Park, Initial Point Loop.

Enroute to the Gulch I stopped for lunch in Homedale; At Rebecca's Mexican Market & Restaurant. The food was amazing and very reasonably priced. From Homedale, I slabbed it to McBride Road where I headed west into the Owyhee's.

McBride road was being graded today, so the road surface was loose and about 4" deep; nothing too hairball as long as I stayed under 50 mph. Yes, I know the speed limit is significantly less than this, but I didn't fancy getting home after dark, and I still had two more sites to tag.

I rode to the GPS Coordinates for Leslie Gulch, which is where the photo was taken. Looking at the other check-ins, I guess I should have stopped at the BLM sign...
