This was my first time here and I've been in Boise for 30 years!

The ride from Boiling Springs to Silver Creek was an exercise in balance. I knew from the weather forecast that this section of the ride was going to be cold, so I was prepared for that. What I didn't anticipate was the 8" of snow covering NF-678 and that, due to the sub-freezing temps, the tracks left by the hunter's 4x4's were log ribbons of ice a foot or two wide and in the lowest part of the road.

As long as I could stay between their icy tire tracks, I was fine. Unfortunately, the bike decided to randomly slide from the crest of the road into the tire tracks on an all too regular basis - where zero traction was the norm. Ten miles of fighting with my bike was enough. Once I got to Silver Creek, I took the paved (sort of) road back south to Crouch.

Oh, and for anyone who's are looking for a sweet gig involving forests, camping, and hot springs - the Plunge is for sale! Contact information is on the sign behind me in the photo.

In August, this would be a level-1 ride on a big bike. It would be boring but pretty on a little bike. With the snow, ice, and cold temps, it was a challenge for sure.
