Check-Ins for this Challenge Point

Sunday – 24APR2022 Pinehurst-Placerville-Beaver Creek-Banner Mine (almost)

It’s 0620 on Sunday Morning and my phone rings. I knew it wasn’t work, we’re shut down on Sundays, so I answered it. “Watcha doin’?” asks the Cuprum Hermit. “Layin’ in bed,” says me. “Wanna ride today?” asks CM. “Yeah. I got a route that gets us four challenge sites, about 190 miles if you’re up for it.” Says me. “I’m in. What time?” he asked. “I’m thinkin’ around 10ish,” says me.

And so, today’s ride began.

Site 25 - Pinehurst Church
It was an easy pavement ride from Boise up to Horsehoe Bend where we topped up our tanks and met the Hermit’s brother who would be joining us for the day. Five miles north of Horseshoe, we turned west, crossed the Payette River, and finally got into the dirt heading NW on Brownlee Rd which led us to our first Site of the Day – Pinehurst Church. Next stop – Site 26 - Placerville.

The PMC (11) decided we needed to go for a quick dirt bike spin. We traileded up the bikes, which was my DRZ400 and his PW80. We parked as soon as we hit gravel and headed up the main road. Most of it was very nicely graded gravel, but the back half there were some ruts and washouts to contend with. I would still have been perfectly comfortable doing this on my R1200GS.

Here is the route we took.

My map (Gaigps topo map) shows a road (in green) where we couldn't find the enterance on the north side. The purpse is where we rode. The map doesn't show it, but there is a bridge where it's highlighted in yellow. The alternate way back was a big rougher, had a little bit of mud, but was scenic. I would recommend coming back this way. It has rained fairly recently but wasn't too soggy.

Always wondered what was across the bridge at Gardena.  Beautiful spring ride up to the Pinehurst Church.

Pinehurst Church.  I only thought to actually go up to it for the photo op AFTER I got home and looked at the photos others had posted.   But its there, peeking out from behind the trees in the background right over the green bandana.
