Check-Ins for this Challenge Point

 Site 32: Wickahoney Stage Stop

On Tuesday, 17MAY2022, I decided to trailer my Lightweight Adventure Bike (LAB) about 35 miles south of Grand View, ID, to nab three challenge sites –32, 05, and 33.

After work and voting, I left Boise at 0945; heading east on I-84 to Simplot Rd, then south to Grand View. In Grand View, I stopped at the Snake River Diner – which I highly recommend. The food and service are outstanding!

After some of the best Biscuits and Gravy that I’ve had in a very long time, I continued south to the intersection of HWY 51 and Battle Creek Road. Turning west on Battle Creek, I staged near a corral about a half-mile off the highway.

Once I had my bike unloaded and my gear on I headed west on Battle Creek. Battle Creek Rd is a graded dirt highway. About 6.5 miles in I stayed left and rode a good Two-Track to the Stage Stop. After a quick look around and the obligatory photo, I headed to my next destination – Site 05 Battle Creek Ranch.

The ride from Boise to Site 32 would have been easily doable on my 1200GS, The rest of the route, not so much.

Special Ed @ Wickahoney Stage Stop

Yesterday I hit up Wickahoney on the R1200GS. I started by taking 45 down and crossed the river at Walters Fairy. From there I took 78 (with one small detour) to the Y going into Bruneau, where I went south on 51.

Along the way I stopped to take a picture and took a video as I crossed the 80,000 mile mark on the odometer. I thought it was only fitting to be going 80 MPH for this moment. Then I continued on.
From there you will turn right (East) on Battle Creek Road and hit gravel. About 4 miles in it will take a hard turn South, and another 3 miles there will be a Y in the road. The trail is easy to miss, and you are leaving the graded gravel road for a double track. From here the it turns into about a 2.4 in difficulty, with some large rocks on the trail to contend with. Most of it was pretty easy, but there were a few rocky sections which forced me to slow down quite a bit. I did fine on the adventure bike (intermediate skill), but it was slow going. You will follow this for 5 miles. Then go through a gate and there you are.
I made friends with a beetle and I checked the site out right around sunset. His name was Lyle. I geared up and headed back out just as it got dark, accidently stepping on Lyle as I mounted. Sorry Lyle.
The way out was the same way I got in. I have to say...I have NEVER seen so many jackrabbits. There were times where there were 4 or 5 on the road ahead of me at one time. I probably say 60 of them, and that's no exaggeration.
Once I hit pavement I went up to Bruneau and just missing the diner being open continued on to Mountain Home where I got a burger. The freeway took me the rest of the way home, where I got in after midnight. Fun fun.
