hez's design notes
01.20.08 with much joy and a tremendous sense of relief i'd like to
introduce the events calendar. now, i made it work. it's
up to you guys to make it good. be sure to keep an eye on what other people are
posting, and sign up to participate if you can. furthermore, try to post your
own ride or other event and see how it goes. don't be shy. maybe it's narcissism, but i think
this calendar might help the upcoming riding season to be the best one yet!
i'm back in class on tuesday, so my contributions here at motoidaho will be
slowing down. whenever i get some time i'll be working on the memberhip
directory and viewable profile pages, so if you have any suggestions, be sure to
send them my way.
oh and one more thing. once you have posted an event or opted-in to someone
else's event, be sure to go to your profile page and click on "my events
schedule" in the site activity box on the right. this is just in case you
need a website to tell you where to go and what to do. :^P
01.14.08 still working on the calendar. my goal is to have it tested and
available by sunday (01.20.08). if you are brave and want to take a look at the
submission form, get your sneak peak here
(must be logged in to view). this form in no way guaranteed to be working, and
it may change a bit between now and sunday. any ride you submit using the test
form now will be deleted before the calendar goes live. the second form you see
after submitting a ride is extremely rough and nowhere near it's final draft. why am i posting it? well,
seeing as how you are clever enough to find this page, i'd love your feedback
on the calendar. that
is all.
01.07.08
hi, I'm hez, the very, extremely, profoundly part-time volunteer web developer
responsible for this site. why so part time? well, i'm a full time
wage slave, full time bsu student, full time sleepy zombie. you see the
problem. so, if the site seems weak, just be patient. i've got big plans here.
maybe check back in a couple of years. ok, it's not as bleak as all that. i
will be gradually introducing new features for members and anonymous site
visitors. here are some of the things on the docket:
events calendar
this will be up and going before spring semester starts on 01.23.08.
club events will be posted on the calendar by captain ed or designee. members
will be able to post rides and things as well. additionally, members will be
able to opt-in to calendar items with one button click. sweet, huh?! anonymous
site visitors will be able to see club events, but not events posted by members.
of course, they will see some enticing statistics such as "14 fun rides are
happening right now, don't you wish you knew about them", etc.
news articles
number two on the schedule will be a news/article posting system. an article
could be anything. some possibilities are: writeups of past or future club
events, gear reviews, meeting minutes, community announcements, pressing
information releases, letters to santa, heck i don't know . whatever you peole
want to write about. members will be able to comment on news articles, as well
as rate them. all posted articles will be available to members, but there will
be an editorial process for articles that are posted for the general public. not
that i think you're a loose cannon. you're clearly not.
buddy system
terrible name? yeah, i thought so too. well, use whateveritscalled to quickly
find other riders near you who have riding preferences similar to yours. if you
haven't noticed, there are three questions regarding your riding preferences on
the user profile page. what?! you haven't joined yet? cut a girl a break. the
page is going to get better, i tell you.
soanyway, that's just three ideas from a long master list of like FIVE ideas that I have, in a
lockbox, buried in the ground, awaiting a time when, well, i have some. if you
have other great ideas for the site, track me down and tell me about it. HEY, if
any of our members are hotshot asp.net/c#/SQL programmer types, do drop me a
line. i could seriously use some help. the pay isn't much ($0), but the other
rewards... wow...they are totally underwhelming as well.
