3 - Advanced Skills

Level 3 rides will include rutted double track, and uneven roads. These may be rocky and difficult at times. A 1200GS or similar bike will feel heavy in this terrain, and will require an experienced rider. A moderate rider on a 650cc bike will be able to maintain 20 to 30 m.p.h. without a load. Little or no single track will be present on a level 3 ride. You may encounter moderate water crossings (less than knee high). Expect higher average speeds on easy sections of the route.

Ride Description:

I need to break in my new ride (V-Strom) so this is the planned route.  Leave Boise and run up through Garden Valley and into Sea Foam Guard Station (Challenge Point) then out to Stanley or Redfish area for camping Friday night.  Saturday will be the big day including stops at Redfish Lodge and Pole Creek.  Then slab down to Rupert and the Albion school Challenge point.  Heading back west we'll pick up Rock Creek Station Marker and Shoshone Falls near Twin Falls.  Then west again to 3 Island Crossing.

Ride Description:

I am planning on picking up these three sites tomorrow. The plan is to stay mostly on dirt so it will likely be a fairly long day with some improvised route finding (getting lost). So if you still need to hit these sites or if you want to hit them again come on out!

You can call or text me if you want to meet tomorrow.

Ride Description:

I'd like to hit a few close challenge sites, Thorn Creek LO is rated as a level three, other than the final ascent it should all be pretty much level two. I'll be leaving From Albertson's at 9:00.

McCall and Whitebird Challenge Sites.

Got a wild hair yesterday around noon to go up and hit all of the IAMC Challenge sites up north of McCall and around Whitebird.  So I packed up and hit the road. I didn't realize it until I started fiddling with my GPS along the way, but there was one site I hadn't been to right along the way, Paddy Flat Guard Station.

Boiling Springs, FAA Radar Site, and Sage Hen Reservoir

Decided yesterday that I needed to get out and hit some more Challenge Sites, I got all packed up this morning, and then decided to hop on the site to check a couple things.  Low and behold, Silverspurs just posted a ride for this weekend to do these exact sites along the route I planned to take.  So I had to decide whether I wanted to wait or not.  Because of my work situation I am not sure I'd be around this weekend so I decided to go for it.
