Description
Tucked high in Idaho’s remote backcountry along the Idaho Backcountry Discovery Route (IDBDR) in Shoshone County near the Little Goat Mountains, the Blue Heaven Cabin (often called “My Blue Heaven” or simply the Blue Cabin) stands as a legendary waypoint for adventure motorcycle riders.
At about 5,777 feet elevation, this charming blue-painted cabin offers a rustic stop amid rugged dual-sport and ADV terrain. Riders on bikes like KTM 690s, DRZs, or Honda 300s tackle technical rocky trails, boulder sections, and steep climbs to reach it—earning serious bragging rights upon arrival.
The cabin features a big parking area and fire ring, perfect for weary motorcyclists to rest, snap photos, and sign the guestbook. Note that it is now private property—respectful visitors stop briefly but do not overnight or take items. Pack in, pack out, and ride on through Idaho’s wild north.
For dual-sport explorers, it’s a bucket-list highlight blending challenge, scenery, and backcountry camaraderie.

Check In
Use the form below to check in. Check-ins must include a photo of you or your bike at the challenge site with the 2026 bandanna. All participants must be registered IAMC Challenge Members. Leave a description of your ride and share road conditions — snow, water, obstacles, and tips for future riders are all appreciated.
Replying to another person's check-in is encouraged, but take care not to accidentally create your own check-in.
The stated difficulty is an estimate. Rating your experience helps future riders stay safe. You alone are responsible for the safety of your ride.
2 Check-Ins
Took my truck about 25 miles in from Clarkia then rode the rest. Hind sight should have just done about 5 miles as it as quicker on the bike. Almost ran into a moose on the way back. Startled him as I came around a corner. He trotted up the road a bit and then disappeared into the woods.
From Clarkia it’s 95% big bike friendly gravel. Lots of logging trucks on the way up, nothing on the way back. Last 1/2 mile is pretty narrow and rocky. About ATV width in places. Would I do it on my GSA? Yes. Would I be having fun on that last 1/2 mile? No! I’ve been up to Blue Haven before. It was much easier on my 390 than the last time I went with a fully loaded 901!
2.5 on a small bike, 3.3 on a big bike
I'm not sure the best way to get to the cabin would be. I came down from Avery. It was easy for most the way until the downed trees got the best of me. Full story in the Ride Report forum section.
