14 – Our Lady, Queen of Heaven Church
Our Lady, Queen of Heaven Church is a historic Roman Catholic church situated in Oreana, Idaho. Constructed around 1883, the building originally functioned as the town’s general store and post office. In 1961, the structure underwent a transformation into a church, incorporating Gothic architectural elements while preserving its original design. Stopped and had a snack here. Its cool that they still do mass 1 time a month.
This is a fun one! It's neat to know that they still do services here. The ride down 78 is easy, and the rain made for nice clean roads.
Cool building. Interesting to see they still hold mass once a month on Saturday.
Last of seven sites for the day. 515 miles and only issue was ran out of fuel 1/2 mile short of pump. Did not stop, Ed pulled up and I held on for the last bit. Should’ve carried more fuel.
Old back country churches are always interesting.
Third stop of the day in early June – perfect weather for a ride along the Snake River watershed. Hit seven sites on a 260 mile loop.
After camping out near CJ Strike, Dave and I filled up in Grand View and headed West. First stop was this lovely church. I would love to come during Mass sometime--it's neat that it is still in use!
Sweet church, still being used to praise the lord! I did the whole Oreana Loop Road which was kind of fun.
Last site for today. Neat little area. Ride was super easy and enjoyable. Pavement the whole way
Great ride with beautiful mountain landscapes along the way.Tried to access Toy Pass thereafter, but the road was blocked with graders and I will save that for another day with my riding partner. The church and the surrounding area was a highlight of my day. I would love to go inside some day and check it out.
8th site for the day. I've always been curious to check out Oreana. Glad this was one of the checkpoints this year.
-edit- I forgot to load the picture, so I loaded it in the reply of this check in.
Great checkpoint easy ride. Very cool old church would of really like to have been able to go inside.
It is an easy ride on pavement. Please be careful to slow down about a mile before you get to the church when you see the Slow Children at Play sign.
Community takes pride in this building, and I hear they still hold Mass. Easy access.
Last year I was talking with ChillyPhilly and remarked that this church would be a great checkpoint. Whadya know! I love this part of Idaho and look forward to spending more time down there.
I might be bias as this is my little community. This church is seriously cool, and they still hold services there 1x month.
If you are coming from the north side on Highway 78 (headed south), it will most likely turn you at MP 42 off of Highway 78. The church is approximately 2 miles in on the left. If you want to take a different way out, Oreana Loop Road continues around for approximately another 5-6 miles and dumps you out on the south end of Highway 78, if you are continuing south. It is a slower, prettier little detour with farmland and interesting desert scenery than the highway affords.

Would love to see inside this church
Nice looking old church.
1st of 4, nice little church.
Crossed the Swan Falls Dam before stopping here on the way up to Toy Pass.
