14 – Our Lady, Queen of Heaven Church

Our Lady, Queen of Heaven Church is a historic Roman Catholic church situated in Oreana, Idaho. Constructed around 1883, the building originally functioned as the town’s general store and post office. In 1961, the structure underwent a transformation into a church, incorporating Gothic architectural elements while preserving its original design. This renovation added features such as a belfry and buttresses, enhancing its ecclesiastical appearance.

This is a fun one! It's neat to know that they still do services here. The ride down 78 is easy, and the rain made for nice clean roads.

Last of seven sites for the day. 515 miles and only issue was ran out of fuel 1/2 mile short of pump. Did not stop, Ed pulled up and I held on for the last bit. Should’ve carried more fuel.

After camping out near CJ Strike, Dave and I filled up in Grand View and headed West. First stop was this lovely church. I would love to come during Mass sometime--it's neat that it is still in use!

Great ride with beautiful mountain landscapes along the way.Tried to access Toy Pass thereafter, but the road was blocked with graders and I will save that for another day with my riding partner. The church and the surrounding area was a highlight of my day. I would love to go inside some day and check it out.

I might be bias as this is my little community. This church is seriously cool, and they still hold services there 1x month.

If you are coming from the north side on Highway 78 (headed south), it will most likely turn you at MP 42 off of Highway 78. The church is approximately 2 miles in on the left. If you want to take a different way out, Oreana Loop Road continues around for approximately another 5-6 miles and dumps you out on the south end of Highway 78, if you are continuing south. It is a slower, prettier little detour with farmland and interesting desert scenery than the highway affords.
