19 – Bruneau Canyon Overlook
From BLM Website:
Welcome to the Grand Canyon of Southwest Idaho! This canyon was shaped by an astounding combination of volcanism, glacial melt and regional drainage patterns. The Bruneau Overlook is the only readily accessible spot to view this spectacular canyon carved through basalt and rhyolite by the Bruneau River. The opposite rim is 1,300 feet away and the distance from rim to riverbed is 800 feet. From this spot near the northern end of the 60-mile canyon, view the wild and scenic Bruneau River tumbling out of the Bruneau-Jarbidge Rivers Wilderness.

Never knew this was here! The canyon is much deeper than I thought. Super cool!
The ride out is beautiful. I think it was called Hot Springs Road, and it is nice and curvy and very scenic. The last 6 miles are gravel, but well graded and easy to keep up speed.
Man that is a deep gorge. The 2 is what you would expect in the desert south of here.
Bruneau Canyon Overlook should be a stop every year, whether it's on the Challenge Site list or not.
Beautiful overlook. The gravel roads aren’t too bad, some spots with soft gravel. Would be a breeze with knobbies. I did it pretty much with a street tire.
The overlook is 18 miles out and back from Bruneau and well worth the effort. What an amazing view! Lots of gravel but nothing difficult.
Amazing. I would have never come out here if not for the challenge. Thanks for including this one. Super amazing. Also stopped at Hot Springs Cemetery on the way and wandered through. Pretty neat. The road was clear with about 4-5 miles of gravel at the end but no big deal, no real ruts or pot holes. Just watch out for cows.
7th site for the day. Very cold and windy. This was my pick-your-own site a few years back. This was my 3rd time here, and I am always pleasantly surprised by how cool this view point is.
One of my all-time favorite places to visit. The views are amazing. Located 20 miles outside of Bruneau, the first 10 are paved, the second 10 miles are gravel, quite deep at times. Proceed with caution!

Crossing the desert was fast and fun.
Pretty washboardy and some deep gravel but not bad

We were making good time for day one of our ride!
I got this site on Alec’s 3 day 1300 mile ride, always a good view
Stunning views from here. Gravel road, but easy
