43 – Galena Summit Overlook

Galena Summit Overlook, also known as the Bethine and Frank Church Overlook, is a scenic viewpoint located on State Highway 75, approximately 30 miles north of Ketchum, Idaho. Situated at an elevation of 8,701 feet, the overlook offers panoramic vistas of the Sawtooth Mountains and the expansive Sawtooth Valley, including the headwaters of the Salmon River.

Was getting chilled going over Galena only to be confronted with these clouds at the site. It only got colder and wetter from this point. Don’t forget rain gear!

Easy access right on the highway. See them clouds in the pic! We had had 90+ days up till that point, and they were about to open up on us, dropping to 37 with sleet as we went over the summit to Lowman through Stanley.
