Sam’s Prairie Poker Run

April 27 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Meet at the Maverick at 7353 W Victory Rd, Boise, ID 83709. (Victory and Cole)

This is our annual Spring kick-off ride, named after Idaho Sam who used to coordinate it, out to Prairie for lunch at the Y-Stop General Store. There are no playing cards involved. Poker refers to the pace. It should be relatively easy, Level 2 dirt roads, and a relaxed pace with multiple butt-breaks. A great opportunity for newbies to get their feet wet and meet some people. And a good time for veterans to get warmed up, see old friends, and meet new ones.

If you’re doing the Challenge this year we’ll hit 3 sites on the ride.
20 – Canyon Creek Station Marker
21 – The Y Stop
34 – South Fork Picture Op

We’ll leave the gas station at 10:00AM to hopefully make it to the Y-Stop between 12:00-1:00. We won’t be doing any interstate but a short stretch of Highway 20 will be higher speeds.

The Route is down Pleasant Valley Rd. to Kuna Mora Rd, Mayfield Rd., Immigrant Rd., Highway 20, Anderson Dam Rd. across the dam to Prairie Rd. which takes us to Prairie. After lunch we take Blacks Creek Rd. back to Boise. You should be home in plenty of time for dinner.

Now all of this is based on good weather and no mechanical failures. We have had flat tires on these rides, but that’s always a possibility anyway. At least you’ll have plenty of friends around to help, or watch. But as with any ride into the wilds, be prepared.

Please be there well before 10:00 so we can actually leave then. And we like to do a short briefing before we go so everyone is on the same page as far as expectations.
About 95 miles there and 50-60 home. Gas is usually available at the Y-Stop.

I don’t see a “join the ride” button, so I’ll just leave this here. I got my bike running today. I have yet to button it up and do a check ride, but it looks like I’ll be joining! If I show up, I’ll be happy to ride sweep.

Thanks for organizing this. Looking forward to it. Roughly what % is paved?

Looks like an awesome ride, Mike. Thank you for organizing it. I was hoping to go this year… I haven’t been able to since I joined the club 3 years ago. Unfortunately, I have prior commitments. I hope to see some good photos!

Looks good! I also have a wedding that day, but not till later in the evening. I may have to pull off early. Will see. Either way, looking forward to it!
