So I was riding today and spotted a place I wanted to check out. Stopped and took some pictures, pinned it so I'd have the coordinates on it, got some info on it, and pulled up a website describing it. But I don't want to use it just yet as my Pick Your Own site. I am hoping to put up a site under that checkpoint that qualifies as "epic", at least in my own mind. This place today doesn't fall under my "epic" heading. But it is kinda cool.........so.......
In Marsing, within the school complex on the right side of the road as you head south on Hwy 78, I spotted a thing called a Fitness Court. From the highway it sorta had a strange swimming-pool look to it due to the blue color used on it. When I parked next to it I realized what it was and what its purpose was. It's basically a concrete pad with a lot of body-weight workout apparatus attached to it. Here is the website that the scan code pulled up.......... nationalfitnesscampaign.com/qrcode2023 .
The name.......... Marsing Fitness Court
The coordinates......... 43.54405, -116.81313
Ride difficulty is a 1......there is a gravel parking lot you have to ride through so maybe a 2. I did it on my big BMW.
On the left end of the wall there is a "ring challenge" that's described.....essentially you are planking for as long as you can hold it, with your feet up on the wall and your hands in the rings out front. I went 1 minute before stopping. Probably could've gone longer but I was just counting "1-Mississippi" and didn't have a proper stopwatch or someone to time me. Plus I felt kinda silly doing it in motorcycle gear.
Not sure how this thread will progress. I've never started a Ride Report with the intent of adding to it over time. We'll see how it goes.........
Enjoy!
So here is another Pick Your Own point from last year's Challenge that I never used.
This is on the road between Rocky Bar and Atlanta and is called the PEG LEG ANNIE marker. It's out in the middle of the national forest, right by the forest service road, so pretty easy access.
I'd rate the ride as a 2. I did the ride that day on my big BMW.
GPS coordinates are 43.76160, -115.22586
There is another sign next to the marker paying tribute to the Freighters and Muleskinners that hauled freight from the Transcontinental Railway in Utah up to the mines and timber camps in Idaho.
Fun fact......I've ridden the old Transcontinental Railway roadbed from Kelton to Promentory (Golden Spike Monument) (mentioned on the sign)
and I attached a photo taken on that ride as well.
So this one is probably out of reach for a lot of people, but it was such a neat ride that I thought I would report on it anyway. Last weekend I was in Grand Junction Colorado to visit my son and he and I rode the Western Rim Trail. This trail is adjacent to the Kokopelli Trail and we accessed it from the Rabbit Valley exit off of I 70 west of Grand Junction.
The main feature of this trail is riding in very close proximity to the rim of a canyon with the Colorado River in the bottom of it. I rode it on my KTM 250 XCFW, which is a pure off-road dirt bike. I would rate this ride as a five because there were parts of it that were pretty technical, with rocky step ups and step downs, and quite a few narrow-lined portions of the trail that called for quite a bit of clutch control, slow speed, maneuvering, and precise line selection. The photos don’t do the place justice. And the nice thing is, I get to go back in about three weeks and ride some more down there, as well as around Moab too.
That’s my son taking a selfie, with me in the background.
