Hi all,

I have been looking into getting a modular helmet for some time. I have been looking into the Schuberth E2 Helmet. But wonted to know if anyone has one or has any other recommendations.

I bought an E2 last spring. It's my first modular and I love it.

First, a few downsides:

  • It's on the heavy side at 4.1 lbs. I never notice helmet weight when I ride.
  • It costs more than most. Buying from MotoStorm eased the price pain a little.
  • I wish the eye-port opening was larger so that I could use standard-size goggles with the visor up.
  • The removable peak causes severe headshake on my FJR1300 at highway speed, but I think that is due to needing a bit taller windshield. I have been removing the peak when riding that bike until I can get the airflow issue addressed. I have no similar problem on my Tenere 700 or WR250R. The peak is easy to remove and install.
  • Some say the chin-strap is positioned too far rearward for their comfort and presses on their throat. It works well for me.

Other than that, it's just about perfect for me:

  • Well-built, substantial with durable mechanicals (Slightly better than the Shoei Neotec II which I originally thought would be my slam-dunk choice.)
  • Quiet (or so I'm told - I haven't worn enough helmets to fairly compare.)
  • Ventilates well (At least, better than my old Shoei RF-SR helmet, but not as good as my dirt-bike helmets with goggles)
  • Chinbar/visors/peak stay in place and are easy to use
  • Chinbar/visors/peak position options work well for me
  • Love the sun-shade - never used one before
  • Chinbar is safety-certified to be worn in the up position - a rare feature among modulars. I seldom ride with it up. It's just nice to know it's safe if I do.
  • I was a little skeptical foregoing helmet strap D-rings for the micrometric buckle, but I like it now.

I bought the solid white version and decorated it with decals.

Other helmets that were on my short list: Shoei Neotec II, HJC RPHA 90S Carbon & 91, AGV SportModular ($$!), Nolan N100-5 Plus, Klim TK1200 Karbon Modular and Scorpion EXO-AT950.

Let me know if you want to take a look at my helmet to help you decide.

I get the sense that this thread is going to be expensive for me. I too have been considering a modular helmet.

Hi Bugs,

Thanks for the info on the E2. I do have a question about the ear pockets for the coms. I am planning on putting my Cardo in it and the speakers are a little thicker thank my Sena was. So I am hoping that its a little more forgiving than my Shoei RF1200 is.

The Schuberth speaker is just slightly recessed below the inner arc-line of the helmet hard-foam. I measured the thickness of the speaker at 10mm (without compressing the speaker foam).

Then I used some large allen wrenches that fit into the pocket as a different way to measure the pocket depth.

Based on these indirect methods, the pocket depth appears to be ~11mm from the bottom of the pocket to the arc-line of the hard foam.
