I left Kuna at 6:30am, picking up my dad and his big blue Goldwing on the way to our first gas stop in Vale, Or. Gas was well over $5/gallon… ouch. We headed north west out of Vale up hwy 26, then a quick right on hwy 7 toward Baker and left on Middle Frk Rd to Galena for the challenge picture. We continued along Middle Frk Rd to hwy 395 and turned south to John Day, coffee along the way in Long Creek to warm up. From John Day we cut over to 395 south on W Bench Rd… a fun little stretch of pavement around John Day which saves negative 10 minutes, lol. Isn’t that the point of riding after all. Once past Silvies, we cut over south east on Silvies-Happer Ranch Rd. It cuts off about 30 miles and avoids Burns and boring straights. Only about 1.5 miles is unpaved… always fun on a heavy FJR and Goldwing. Once back into Vale, we headed south on Lytle Blvd through Homedale and arrived home 470 miles later.
